Orchha
Madhya Pradesh, India
A sleepy riverside town full of 16th–17th-century Bundela palaces, temples and royal cenotaphs. Big sights, small crowds, and a short hop from Jhansi.
- Backpacker / day
- ₹1,200–2,200
- Mid-range / day

- Best time
- October to March
- Ideal length
- 1–2 days
- Gateway
- Jhansi Junction, about 16 km away (fast trains from Delhi in about 4–5 hours)
Orchha was the capital of the Bundela kings, and it still has the palaces, temples and cenotaphs to prove it, scattered along the Betwa River. The town itself is small and relaxed, with far fewer visitors than its monuments deserve.
It's easy to reach from Delhi by fast train to Jhansi, and it pairs well with Khajuraho, a half-day drive away. Two days is enough to see it properly without rushing.
